Eyesi Slit Lamp FAQs
The Eyesi® range of virtual reality simulators for medical training is manufactured by Haag-Streit Simulation. Formerly known as VRmagic, the company was founded in 2001 as a university start-up, and since then has been a pioneer in virtual reality technology for medical training. The Eyesi® Slit Lamp is a high-end diagnostic training system for ophthalmologists and optometrists. Its virtual reality technology is integrated into the original hardware of the BQ 900 slit lamp model from Haag-Streit Diagnostics. Trainees can examine virtual patients with the biomicroscope, fundoscopy lens, or gonioscopy lens. The Eyesi® Slit Lamp simulates all functions of a real slit lamp. The highly realistic simulation of the visualisation of intraocular structures in real-time provides a close-to-life training experience.
With a database of more than 150 virtual patients, the Eyesi® Slit Lamp software includes a wide range of clinically relevant cases, including; lids, lashes, conjunctiva, cornea, anterior chamber, lens and retinal assessments.
The Eyesi® Slit Lamp offers embedded courseware that can easily be integrated into educational programs. The curriculum features six tiers, each consisting of several courses. Students advance through the curriculum independently and are self-guided by completing the cases of a course. At the end of each virtual examination, the Eyesi® Slit Lamp presents trainees with a detailed evaluation of their performance. Scored parameters include the examination time, the light exposure, the completeness of findings and accuracy of diagnosis, allowing trainees to improve their skills systematically.
VRmNet is a web-based service for networked Eyesi simulators, offering online courses for trainees and administration tools for educators as well as benefits for operation and service. The personalised VRmNet dashboard can be accessed online from any computer or mobile device, 24/7.

The Eyesi® Direct and Eyesi® Indirect are ophthalmoscope simulators that are handled the same way as their real counterparts and allows for realistic practice of eye examinations. Looking through the ophthalmoscopes into the model eyes, trainees see a lifelike, three-dimensional representation of the eye simulated in real-time.
The Eyesi® Direct offers embedded courseware that can easily be integrated into educational programs. The curriculum features 4 courses, with 60 cases. Students advance through the curriculum independently and are self-guided by completing the cases of a course. The included curriculum is intended to teach pattern recognition of the most common pathologies within only a few hours. The standardised learning experience ensures that all students reach the same level of clinical proficiency.
The Eyesi® Indirect offers embedded courseware that can easily be integrated into educational programs. The curriculum features 320 cases in 5 tiers, each with several courses. Students advance through the curriculum independently and are self-guided by completing the cases of a course. The included curriculum is intended to teach pattern recognition of the most common pathologies within only a few hours. The standardised learning experience ensures that all students reach the same level of clinical proficiency.
