All Haag-Streit Academy lectures, workshops, courses and symposiums are hosted and organised by the Haag-Streit UK Clinical Education and Training Team comprised of Product Managers, Gemma Edwards and Anna Chen, and Clinical Education Co-ordinator, Victoria Chapman-Brown.

Meet the Faculty

Haag-Streit Academy's exclusive live events and online webinars are delivered by experienced clinical speakers and product experts. Our excellent Faculty of specialists ensure an engaging and stimulating series of lectures, covering a variety of subjects, including; biometry, perimetry and slit lamp imaging.

Mr David Sculfor

David is a Consultant Optometrist with Buckinghamshire NHS Foundation Trust. In 1994, he moved to Stoke Mandeville Hospital to start a new Optometry Department, where his special interests include; biometry, electrodiagnostics and diabetic retinopathy screening. 

David also established the Bucks Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and has carried out numerous training courses, workshops, and conference lectures for the British Association of Retinal Screening (BARS).

David is a specialist speaker for the Haag-Streit Academy 'Improving Outcomes' Biometry courses.

Mr Peter Wilson

Peter trained at Aberdeen University and completed a PhD in Surgery in Dundee, using ergonomic methodologies to evaluate surgical techniques, before switching to ophthalmic research, and a training programme in ophthalmology.

Between July 2014 until July 2015, Peter was the Fellow for Cornea and Anterior Segment at the University of Auckland. This role involved an extensive clinical and surgical workload in a unit led by Professor Charles McGhee, with exposure to complex and novel procedures in a tertiary centre of excellence. During his training, Peter acquired advanced experience in complex cataract surgery, corneal transplant and trauma repair. Since 2015, Peter has been working as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in NHS Fife and Forth Valley.

Peter is a specialist speaker for the Haag-Streit Academy 'Improving Outcomes' Biometry courses.

Prof. Fiona Rowe

Prof. Fiona Rowe is a Professor in Orthoptics and Health Services Research at the University of Liverpool and a recent NIHR Research Fellow. She is associate-editor-in-chief for the journal “Strabismus”, Editor for “Current Eye Research”“Cochrane Eyes and Vision” Group Editor and a mentor for the National Institute of Health Research clinical academic research pathway.

Her particular research interests, include; visual impairment due to acquired brain injury (particularly stroke), visual field evaluation and control of ocular alignment. Prof. Rowe is the Author of two textbooks: “Clinical Orthoptics” and “Visual fields via the visual pathway”, co-author on four book chapters, and has presented and published her research extensively.

Fiona is a specialist speaker for the Haag-Streit Academy Gold Standard Perimetry courses.

Mr Sunil Mamtora

Sunil studied Medicine at Newcastle University, graduating in 2015. Following this, he began training as an Ophthalmologist in the South-West and currently works as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Bristol Eye Hospital. Sunil balances his clinical commitments with his academic work as a researcher and NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow. Sunil was previously the Chair of the Ophthalmologists Training Group (OTG) at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as well as sitting on the Council for the college and being a member of the trustee board. He continues to be actively involved at the College as the current national medical director’s clinical fellow.

Sunil is a specialist speaker for the Haag-Streit Academy Slit Lamp courses.

Comprehensive ophthalmic courses & workshops

Haag-Streit Academy offers an extensive calendar of interactive courses. These include; Slit Lamp Basic SkillsAdvanced Slit Lamp Course, ‘Improving Outcomes‘ Biometry: Measurement Essentials, ‘Improving Outcomes‘ Biometry: Clinical Decisions and Management, and Octopus 900 Perimetry Expert User Training. All events are CPD-approved meaning delegates can claim valuable points for their attendance on each course. 

Skills Hub

Pay & play sessions

Haag-Streit Academy Skills Hub sessions are designed for those who wish to spend more time practising skills and techniques in a supervised environment. A maximum of eight eye care professionals have shared access to a range of the latest Haag-Streit equipment, with product experts on hand to give guidance and answer questions. These hands-on sessions are intended to give existing slit lamp users precious time with state-of-the-art devices to help improve skills in a friendly, no pressure environment and are suitable for those looking to improve basic foundational slit lamp skills through to more advanced skills.

Bespoke product training

Comprehensive workshops at your premises

Haag-Streit Academy's bespoke on-site training program has been designed for small groups of clinical staff who wish to further enhance their skills in-house. Combining a mixture of tailored presentations and hands-on training, this course is ideal for units with multiple staff who are unable to attend the full day training courses offered at Haag-Streit HQ.

A dedicated training facility

Haag-Streit Academy

The Haag-Streit Academy training facility is located at the Haag-Streit Headquarters in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire. It is a dedicated, purpose-built space, which allows the company to offer high-quality training to meet the different needs and objectives of the wide range of courses we offer.

A comfortable environment for learning

The facility

Fully air-conditioned, Haag-Streit Academy training facility is a comfortable environment that can accommodate up to 24 delegates. Many Haag-Streit Academy courses involve hands-on, practical workshops and the flexible space allows delegates to participate comfortably in these workshops within small groups, which enhances learning. Naturally, access to free Wi-Fi is provided. Based on the ground floor, there is easy access for wheelchair users. All Haag-Streit Academy courses include lunch and refreshments, as standard. Delegates will receive free-flowing tea, coffee and water throughout the day, as well as cakes and pastries and a buffet-style lunch. Our caterers can accommodate any dietary requirements.

Excellent road & rail links

Haag-Streit Academy is close to road and rail links. Stansted Airport is just a short 3 mile drive away and the Stansted Express rail line goes directly into Bishop's Stortford town centre.

For those who do wish to travel by car, the facility is located within close proximity to the M11 and M25 motorways. Parking is available on-site free of charge for those who wish to drive.
