The Eyesi® range of virtual reality simulators for medical training is manufactured by Haag-Streit Simulation. Formerly known as VRmagic, the company was founded in 2001 as a university start-up, and since then has been a pioneer in virtual reality technology for medical training. In 2020, VRmagic joined the Swiss-based Haag-Streit Group and in 2021 it rebranded to Haag-Streit Simulation. The company is based in Mannheim, Germany.

VRmNet questions
VRmNet is the online support for the Eyesi simulators. While the simulators can be used as standalone devices, VRmNet allows the devices to be networked for easier management (this is especially useful if there is more than one device). VRmNet is a web-based portal which allows for the management of accounts online. An educator can make, manage, and review user accounts from a computer without needing to be with the device. Each user account will also have access to their own student VRmNet portal, with additional training content as well as access to their personal findings library. Having a networked device also ensures that the simulator can receive any software updates and sync with other simulators within your domain.
No, the personalised VRmNet dashboard can be accessed from any computer or mobile device.
VRmNet creates an easy platform for assessors and educators to manage a large number of accounts. Educators can create multiple student accounts with ease from an excel sheet or create and amend individual accounts. Once a student account has been created, there is an option to send the new users an orientation course, detailing the correct way to use the device and basic controls. Users will also have access to additional online course content, which can be completed away from the simulator device, as well as access to the findings library and their personal training status. VRmNet will allow the educators to monitor all the student’s progress through comprehensive training reports. If more than one simulator is on the same domain, training data can be synchronized across the devices within the domain, meaning users are not tied to one system. VRmNet also facilitates remote software support and software updates.
VRmNet is made of two parts: the domain licence and the device licence. The VRmNet domain licence is the basic requirement to connect simulators to VRmNet. It includes one subdomain that can be chosen, e.g. https://yourname.vrmnet.com. Each site will require only one domain licence, even if you have multiple simulators. The device licence is unique to each simulator. Each simulator will require its own device licence in order to connect to VRmNet. If you have a GSP for the Eyesi Surgical Simulator, this includes both licences required to network the simulator.
Yes. When you purchase a diagnostic simulator, it comes with one-year free VRmNet access. Toward the end of your trial, we will contact you regarding whether you would like to renew.
The simulator will need to be plugged into an active network port. The internet port will need to be an open port 1194 (TCP, outbound). We recommend that you contact your IT team to make them aware of this at least 4-6 weeks before installation, as this can sometimes take a while and they may have a procedure they need to follow.
To register for your VRmNet account, please follow the link below. Ideally complete and submit the form at least one week before installation but it can be completed retrospectively. This form grants permission for the simulator to connect and synchronize with the database. The primary contact should complete this form, and we also ask for the names and contact information of the educators to create initial educator accounts - additional accounts can be created later if needed.

There are different types of account: Admin, Educator and User. Each one has a different level of permissions.
Admins can create both Educator and User accounts. There are two ways of doing this. The first is to log onto the device itself and create individual accounts. To do this you will need to create a username and a password. Finally, you select what type of account it is. The other way is through VRmNet. This is quicker as a spreadsheet can be uploaded with all the accounts to be registered. Minimum details required are a username and email. An email will be sent out to each user with the login details and an orientation course to be completed before logging onto the device. Groups of users can also be assigned to a class, and the class to an educator. The educator will then get a weekly report on how the class is progressing.
Educators will see the users’ accounts in the class that have been assigned to them. This is useful for large sites with different classes and year groups using the device. The educator can also set course locks if required and deactivate user accounts.
User accounts will only see their own data and can work through the course content. The progression is automatically saved meaning this can be done at their own pace.
Yes, an Educator or Admin can create course locks, for example if you need to prevent a particular class of students working through certain content or want to unlock sequential cases opening up all of the content.
This can be done on the device itself for individual accounts. Log in as an Admin and select courses locks for each account. Another way is through VRmNet, where the course locks can be created for a whole class in one go. This is the same for activating or deactivating user accounts.
Yes, the courseware guide will describe each case in the current software version. Admin and educators can see the full findings library on the device or through VRmNet.
Yes, once your device is installed either your Area Sales Manager or Product Manager will provide user device training, including creating accounts and using VRmNet.
FAQs for simulator students
Not all simulators are linked, only those within the same VRmNet domain can sync. You will also have a different login for each type of simulator. Your current user account will have been created either on the original simulator or (if networked) in the VRmNet domain for that site. If the device is standalone, unfortunately the account cannot be moved, and a new account will need to be created. If the site has VRmNet, then you can request the account to be transferred to a new domain.
Yes, the VRmNet user transfer makes it easy to take your VRmNet training data with you. A user account may be moved from one VRmNet domain to another. To request the transfer, please send an email stating your request to service.simulation@haag-streit.com. Your email address must be identical to the one used for the VRmNet user account.
The answer will depend on whether the site has VRmNet.
If the devices are stand alone, you will need to keep to one device as they are not networked and cannot sync.
If the site does have VRmNet, then the devices will automatically sync every 15 mins, and you can use either. If you do need to move directly from one to another with less than a 15 min break in-between, then press the sync icon on the login page to manually sync the devices.
An admin will need to create an account for you. You will not be able to create your own.
Eyesi Slit Lamp FAQs
The Eyesi® Slit Lamp is a high-end diagnostic training system for ophthalmologists and optometrists. Its virtual reality technology is integrated into the original hardware of the BQ 900 slit lamp model from Haag-Streit Diagnostics. Trainees can examine virtual patients with the biomicroscope, fundoscopy lens, or gonioscopy lens. The Eyesi® Slit Lamp simulates all functions of a real slit lamp. The highly realistic simulation of the visualisation of intraocular structures in real-time provides a close-to-life training experience.
With a database of more than 150 virtual patients, the Eyesi® Slit Lamp software includes a wide range of clinically relevant cases, including; lids, lashes, conjunctiva, cornea, anterior chamber, lens and retinal assessments.
The Eyesi® Slit Lamp offers embedded courseware that can easily be integrated into educational programs. The curriculum features six tiers, each consisting of several courses. Students advance through the curriculum independently and are self-guided by completing the cases of a course. At the end of each virtual examination, the Eyesi® Slit Lamp presents trainees with a detailed evaluation of their performance. Scored parameters include the examination time, the light exposure, the completeness of findings and accuracy of diagnosis, allowing trainees to improve their skills systematically.
Eyesi Direct and Indirect FAQs
The Eyesi® Direct and Eyesi® Indirect are ophthalmoscope simulators that are handled the same way as their real counterparts and allows for realistic practice of eye examinations. Looking through the ophthalmoscopes into the model eyes, trainees see a lifelike, three-dimensional representation of the eye simulated in real-time.
The Eyesi® Direct offers embedded courseware that can easily be integrated into educational programs. The curriculum features 4 courses, with 60 cases. Students advance through the curriculum independently and are self-guided by completing the cases of a course. The included curriculum is intended to teach pattern recognition of the most common pathologies within only a few hours. The standardised learning experience ensures that all students reach the same level of clinical proficiency.
The Eyesi® Indirect offers embedded courseware that can easily be integrated into educational programs. The curriculum features 320 cases in 5 tiers, each with several courses. Students advance through the curriculum independently and are self-guided by completing the cases of a course. The included curriculum is intended to teach pattern recognition of the most common pathologies within only a few hours. The standardised learning experience ensures that all students reach the same level of clinical proficiency.

Eyesi Surgical FAQs
Eyesi® Surgical is a high-end simulator for intraocular surgery training. It allows trainees to see the virtual surgical field in a high-resolution, stereo view while operating with life-like surgical instruments. The highly-realistic simulation of interaction with tissue in real-time increases trainees’ surgical experience without any risk for patients.
Eyesi® Surgical is a technically mature training system. Numerous studies prove that Surgeons who trained on the surgical simulator have lower complication rates during intraocular surgery compared with peers who did not have the opportunity. No, students can practice on their own or with help from a supervisor (either physically or virtually). The simulator will provide detailed explanations as well as in-depth objective feedback.

GSP (Gold Software Plan) includes the VRmNet licences and regular software updates. Haag-Streit releases a new software update for this device every year. Maintaining an active GSP ensures your device is kept up to date and cutting edge.
Haag-Streit UK will contact you before your GSP is due to expire to see if you would like to renew. The new plan will need to start when the old plan finishes. This is to avoid any breaks in the GSP cover. This does also mean that if you choose to delay the GSP renewal for any reason, the start dates will be back dated to when the last plan ended. To avoid this, we recommend taking out a 10-year GSP plan to cover the life of the simulator and give the best value for money.
Earsi Otoscope FAQs
The Earsi® Otoscope is an otoscope simulator which is handled the same way as its real counterpart. It allows realistic practice of ear examinations, including pencil grip and pinna pull. Looking through the otoscope into the model ear, trainees see a lifelike, three-dimensional representation of the external and middle ear simulated in real-time.
Earsi® Otoscope offers an embedded courseware and can easily be integrated into educational programmes. The curriculum consists of three courses, each with several cases. Students advance through the curriculum independently and are self-guided by completing the cases of a course. The standardised learning experience ensures that all students reach the same level of clinical proficiency.
