The Eyesi Indirect ROP Simulator platform can be equipped to teach effective peripheral laser photocoagulation (laser therapy), the most common treatment for severe ROP. The new courseware guides trainees through each step, from focusing and aiming to placing the correct number of spots with just the right amount of power. By adjusting the laser settings and firing the laser with a foot pedal, trainees learn to optimize laser duration and intervals, laser power, and positioning of the burns.

The Eyesi Indirect ROP offers two didactically structured curricula (coursewares). The first courseware, "ROP diagnostic," focuses on the ophthalmoscopic examination of babies and diagnosis of ROP. It features virtual patients with different stages of retinopathy, including aggressive ROP, plus disease, and retinal detachment. Trainees also become familiar with their country's guidelines for screening and treating ROP. 

The second courseware, "ROP laser therapy", equips trainees with the practical skills required for laser treatment, which is hugely demanding for beginners. After learning to aim and focus the laser, trainees learn to place confluent laser burns in small, confined areas with the correct laser settings. Finally, users need to decide whether laser treatment is advisable and perform laser treatments up to the ora serrata.
