Haag-Streit announces updated tomography maps for Eyestar 900

Haag-Streit UK is pleased to announce updates to the Haag-Streit Eyestar 900  to include three new tomography maps.

The new Eyestar maps are included in the latest release of Eyesuite (i9.17) and include true net power, anterior refractive power and true refractive power maps. These maps complement the existing axial, tangential, elevation and pachymetry maps that are already available on the Eyestar.

The true net power map includes the radii of both the anterior and posterior cornea, showing it contributing to the total corneal power and considers the true refractive indexes of the cornea and aqueous separately. This may make IOL power calculation more accurate in the eyes with non-standard or surgically altered corneas.

Anna Chen, Haag-Streit UK Biometry Product Manager, said, “In the case of keratoablative refractive surgery the anterior cornea is altered which effectively decouples the corneal surfaces. The relationship between the anterior and posterior cornea is therefore not always constant, as was previously assumed. With the ability to now measure both the posterior and anterior cornea, the new true net power maps will allow for more accurate IOL power calculation.”

The anterior refractive power map considers the effect of spherical aberration, giving a more realistic representation of the cornea power profile. The true refractive power map enhances the analysis by evaluating refractive effects at both the anterior and posterior corneal surfaces.
